Learning Experience: Brighter Projection on Panasonic Projectors

Challenge: Increase Image Brightness

Most of us who have used Panasonic projectors know the brightest image can be achieved using the Graphics Picture Mode in your projector's Picture setting. But this setting, although the brightest on these projectors, does tend to look cooler and you may hear complaints about the screen looking too blue.

To get the maximum brightness but keep the warm tones, under the Picture menu, change Picture Mode to Standard and set the Dynamic Contrast to OFF.

Dynamic Contrast analyzes the input signal frame-by-frame and directly adjusts the amount of light produced by the light source according to the contrast requirements of each scene. As well as increasing precision, Dynamic Contrast more accurately reproduces scenes where light and dark images frequently interchange. Dynamic Contrast can be set via OSD menu to suit projection application, environment, and content. Dynamic Contrast [1] setting applies a small amount of light-source adjustment and signal compensation, Dynamic Contrast [2] a moderate amount, and Dynamic Contrast [3] a large amount. Various contrast parameters can be adjusted and saved as a custom USER preset, or Dynamic Contrast disabled when full brightness is required.

This post is part of a new series called Learning Experiences. In event production, our value can often be measured as the sum of our learning experiences, that is to say "the mistakes or challenges we've faced AND overcome." I've recognized that even after 30+ years of experience in producing live events, the dynamic and evolving nature of this business means there has rarely been an event that I didn't learn something from. So I am cataloging ever new learning experience - to entertain and hopefully help our friends and colleagues benefit from my experiences.
